The photo canvas is the most popular option for printing your own photo in XXL format. But if you are into large-format photography, you might want to try out a few other photo products, too. Aside from photo canvases, photos on acrylic glass or on aluminium are also very much in demand. We will present here the advantages and disadvantages of the alternatives to photo canvases here.

Evaluation of the alternatives to photo canvas

It’s not without good reason that the photo canvas is the most popular photo product. The wooden stretcher frame turns the photo canvas into a three-dimensional product. Only the considerably more expensive 8 mm acrylic glass print can offer a similarly spectacular effect.

In terms of printing quality, the photo canvas differs significantly from aluminium and acrylic glass: The printing quality on Alu-Dibond is the highest. But a very high-quality print can also be achieved on acrylic glass. But as soon as the picture is on the wall, the printing technique has no further relevance. When looked at from a realistic distance, all materials look amazing.

The surfaces of canvas prints and the rest are, of course, very different. Whereas canvas and Alu-Dibond have a semi-matte surface, acrylic glass amazes with its high-gloss look. Forex (also known as rigid foam board) is a synthetic image medium that no longer looks particularly modern these days and its significance is decreasing all the time

Canvas or Plexiglasss?

Photo canvas and acrylic glass are two very different photo media. Whereas the photo canvas looks classic and homey, a photo printed onto acrylic glass with its high-gloss surface stands for a cool and modern design. In deciding for or against acrylic glass, it’s best to think about whether or not this material will match your existing interior design.

Which motif is better printed on canvas or on acrylic glass is purely a matter of taste. But there are differences in printing quality: The required resolution for canvas is considerably lower than for acrylic glass.

Canvas or Metal?

The difference between photo canvas and aluminium is also considerable. Whereas the photo canvas is a classic interior product and beautifies the living space, an aluminium photo print ensures perfect reproduction of the image. The effect on the viewer is analogous: Canvas emphasises the decorative character, whereas Alu-Dibond emphasises the image motif. When deciding between a photo canvas or an aluminium print, too, the existing interior design should be taken into consideration: Canvas is homely and cosy, whereas a photo on aluminium looks very professional but at the same time sober and abstract.

Which motif is better printed on canvas or on aluminium is once again purely a matter of taste. But there are differences in printing quality here too: The required resolution for canvas is considerably lower than for aluminium.
